We're looking for a design intern to help us build mobile websites and design for mobile first. The works is in the process of a big shift to mobile, and we want to set that mobile-first example by building stunning mobile designs with Mojaba. Your main job will be to design mobile websites for promotional purposes and build sites for existing or potential customers. We also need help designing charts, graphics, graphs and layouts for agency tools and blog posts. This could include PowerPoints, PDFs, ebooks, articles, and anything in between. We may also ask for your help in redesigning our public-facing site (mojaba.com) or designing Mojaba features for usability.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation offers a limited number of internships to students interested in hands-on experience at a leading national nonprofit organization. The CF Foundation is currently interviewing candidates for an internship opportunity at its Iowa Chapter. 


The CF Foundation has recently been featured in USA Today, Forbes Magazine, US News & World Report for its innovative and entrepreneurial methods and success. The Wall St. Journal's Smart Money has recognized the CF Foundation as a leader among U.S. health/research charities for keeping administrative costs to a minimum while maximizing funds for medical programs.


Students will work under the guidance of CF Foundation staff, acquiring skills and experience as they assist in the planning and implementation of event-based fundraising events (such as the national Great Strides Walk for CF). The experience will include interaction with volunteers and vendors in addition to CFF staff. This is a non-paid internship, which may qualify for academic credit at your institution.

The Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault in Des Moines is seeking a social media intern to assist with online marketing and communications campaigns to promote the work of the coalition for the Summer and Fall of 2012.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Website updates using social media to promote IowaCASA (i.e. facebook, twitter, myspace, etc.) 
  • Collecting e- newsletter materials and drafting articles 
  • Assist with the development of an agency blog 
  • Researching strategies for targeting new audiences and working with traditional media sources

IowaCASA is a private non-profit organization whose mission is to unite people and organizations to promote a society free from sexual violence and to meet the diverse needs of survivors of sexual assault. IowaCASA has 28 member sexual assault crisis centers serving survivors of sexual assault throughout Iowa. Coalition staff work on several initiatives including: technical assistance and training to member centers; civil legal assistance for survivors of sexual assault, including immigration assistance; improving responses to sexual assault within communities of color; a national project providing peer-based assistance to other sexual assault coalitions; statewide sexual assault prevention; training for allied professionals; and public policy efforts at the state and national level. This position provides strategic and tactical support for various projects within the corporate communications department.

Provides Support to the Following Positions:
  • Director, communications and media relations
  • Media relations manager
  • Internal communications manager
  • Communications specialist 
  • Other communications team members, as appropriate
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions):
  • The intern will be exposed to various facets of the corporate communications group. The intern will provide support for internal communications, media relations, social media and other departmental projects.
  • Position requires journalistic reporting of articles for NewsLink, Power Source and MidAmerican Worldwide employee publications; editorial capabilities ranging from copy to comprehensive editing; media relations interest and/or background for drafting news releases, talking points and other media-related copy; best business practices for social media; and organizational and time management skills for other departmental projects.
  • Assists with keeping media contacts up-to-date; serves as backup for coordinating morning and afternoon news clips; participates in Internet and intranet audits; will work with employees in various departments throughout the organization; will provide heavy proofreading assistance to each member of the department; will provide some administrative support and will assist with other projects, when needed.

Requirements:
  • Completion of three years toward a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English and/or public relations.
  • Background in news reporting or editing is desirable. Interest and/or background in media relations preferred.
  • Basic understanding of employee communications, media relations and social media.
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills. Must be proficient in AP style. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical computer skills.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Available at least 20 hours per week during the summer and school year.
