Duties will include covering education and local government, feature stories, taking photos, assisting with layout, design and the daily tasks to produce the newspaper, both in print and online. Strong emphasis on using social media platforms.

FTC Watch Internship

FTC:WATCH, a respected, 35-year-old publication covering consumer protection and competition, is expanding to cover the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a controversial new agency with a staggering array of responsibilities in a time of economic uncertainty. 


We are looking for interns who are smart, savvy, intellectually curious and good writers. This is an opportunity to break new ground in covering consumer finance, including student and mortgage lending and the credit industries. Journalism students and recent graduates will be considered, and will be mentored by senior, award-winning reporters with extensive experience covering business and politics in Washington. 


Objectivity, accuracy and attention to detail are essential qualities. These are paid, part-time positions. Unfortunately we can not offer health insurance at this time. Minnesota Newspaper Association is looking for an assistant media buyer to join its advertising team. This is an entry level position. 
The person will assist in the placement of statewide and national newspaper advertising. The right person will be service and detail oriented a quick learner and work well under deadlines. Computer experience and exceptional customer service required. 
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Understanding of newspapers, newspaper product portfolios, rate cards, and deadlines
  • Proficient use of the One System (web-based media placement program)
  • General knowledge of all MNA advertising accounts and agencies
  • Ordering, sending and confirming ads before deadline
  • Generating One System quotes for Advertising Account Managers and Managing Director
  • Gathering out-of-state tearsheets in a timely manner to keep billing current
  • Working closely with assigned accounts in conjunction with Advertising Account Managers
  • Collecting current out-of-state and in-state rate cards
  • Updating newspaper rates and information in the One System database
  • Serving as a back up for scheduling MCAN and MDAN Statewide Advertising Networks
  • Assisting Executive Director, Managing Director and Advertising Account Managers as requested
  • Various clerical duties as required to perform job responsibilities Skills required:
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Proficient in working with numbers and calculating with percentages
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple projects at once
  • Capable of working under deadline
  • Knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems
